I am Walking Yessiree! Improving our Gait
Walking is a contralateral movement. There needs to be rotation of the spine as well as the limbs. Especially with clients with walking problems, waking up the spine is essential. Rotation wakes up the extensors as well as the flexors.
With hips locked up due to sitting too much or poor stability patterns, rotation of the legs get diminished. Getting back the patterns of the legs is essential from all ranges of motion of the hips and internal/external rotation of the legs. Dynamic stability is needed for a walk. Stepping forward on one leg is a different organization than doing the hundred, a very symmetrical, homolateral exercise.
